When choosing the perfect destination to learn English, a number of factors play a part in the decision making process. Will I have a lot of access to the language outside of the classroom? Are there many interesting cultural differences? Is the climate pleasant? And, perhaps the most important consideration, am I going to have fun? There is a destination which provides an emphatic 'yes' in response to all of these questions - Malta.
As a former British colony and therefore a bilingual island group, Malta offers English learners unlimited opportunities to practise their language skills outside of the classroom. This fact, coupled with Malta's extremely pleasant Mediterranean climate - summers see temperatures consistently in the 30s and winters are extremely mild - provide the perfect complement to a language course on the island. How you enjoy Malta's climate is, of course, up to you! The sun-seekers will not be disappointed by the island's array of beaches which cater for all requirements; whether you're looking for a large beach with the cafés and restaurants which are to be expected from a tourist resort or you'd rather spend your time in a more secluded bay away from the tourist trail.
If you'd rather spend your free time exploring the history and architecture of your new surroundings then Malta will not disappoint. Take a stroll through the historic capital of Valletta and marvel at the numerous historical sites the city boasts or head to one of the several ancient archaeological sites on the island for a glimpse into Malta's pre-history.
Further opportunities to mix with the locals and practise your English skills with native speakers are provided by the markets held in several of the villages. These village markets are as much an excuse for locals to catch up with each other as they are for shopping and are not to be missed if you're keen on putting your newly acquired conversation skills into practice, or simply if you're keen on a bargain!
The Maltese authorities carefully regulate the standard of English teaching on the island so you can be confident that your language course will be more than adequate. In addition to this Maltalingua English Language School, overlooking the vibrant St. Julian's Bay, only employs teachers who have a recognised qualification to teach English as a foreign language, meaning that you can be assured of quality language training. The school itself boasts modern facilities and air-conditioned classrooms allowing you to get the most possible from your course. If this sounds like it may be the language learning holiday for you, then why not enter Maltalingua's competition to win a free English course? Details can be found on the school's website.
