Murui Huitoto is a member of the Witotoan language family spoken by about 2,900 people along Ampiyacu, Putumayo and Napo rivers in Peru and Colombia. In Peru the language has official status and is used in schools and churches.
Murui Huitoto was formerly spoken in Brazil, and is also known as Murui, Bue or Witoto. It is written with a version of the Latin alphabet and a dictionary and grammar have been published.
