Numbers in Chorti

How to count in Chorti (Ch'orti'), a Mayan language spoken in parts of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

Numbers in Chorti take different suffixes depending on what you’re counting. For example, the suffix kojt is used for people and animals, e.g. inkojt pak’ab’ (1 person), cha’kojt chitamob’ (2 goats); te’ is used when counting long objects, and when talking about time, e.g. inte’ ajk’in (1 day); and wojr is used for round and spherical objects, e.g. cha’wojr malak (2 mangoes).
