Ayoreo is a Zamucoan language spoken in northern Paraguay and eastern Bolivia by about 4,700 people. In Paraguay it is spoken in the Chaco and Alto Paraguay departments, and in Bolivia it is spoken in Cordillera Province in the south of the Santa Cruz Department.
Ayoreo is also known as Morotoco, Moro, Zamuco, Ayoweo, Ayoré or Pyeta Yovai. It is known as Ayoreo in Bolivia and Morotoco in Paraguay. Ayoreo people call themselves ayorei, which means "(real) person".
Ayoreo is written with the Latin script using an orthography based on Spanish. Parts of the Bible have been translated into the language.
