Daju Mongo (Dajiŋge)

Daju Mongo is a member of the Eastern Sudanic branch of the Nilo-Saharan language family. It is spoken by about 60,000 Dar Daju Daju people in central Chad, particularly in and around Mongo (مونقو) in the north of the Gúera region (منطقة قيرا).

Daju Mongo is also known as Wadai Daju, Dadju, Dajou, Daju, Dajo, Gadjira, Dar Daju Daju or Daju Dar Daju. Daju Mongo speakers call themselves Dadjo. Dialects include Bardangal, Eref and Gadjira. It is primarily an oral language, however a way to write it with the Latin alphabet was developed in 2001 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, SIL, NGOs, and the Chadian government. It is also sometimes written with the Arabic script.
