Modang is a member of the Kayanic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 15,000-20,000 Modang and Wehea people in the East Kutai and Kutai Kartanegara Regencies in East Kalimantan province on the island of Borneo in northern Indonesia.
Dialects of Modang include Woq Helaq, Long Gelat, Long Nah, Long Bento', Benehes, Hahes, Liah Bing, Mei Lan and Wahau. Modang is written with the Latin alphabet.
