Moro is a member of the Talodi-Heiban branch of the Niger-Congo language family. It has about 79,000 speakers in the Nuba Mountains in the north of South Kordofan state in the south of Sudan. There are also some speakers of Moro in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
Moro is also known as Dhimorong. Dialects include Leyenia, Tobəɽelda, Uləba, Lənəbwa, Nḏërria, Ləmwarəŋ and Ləŋorəban
Before 1936, Moro was written with the Arabic alphabet. In 1936, missionaries created an orthography for Moro using the Latin alphabet, and translated the New Testament of the Bible into the Ləŋorəban dialect of Moro.
