Paiwan (Pinayuanan)

Paiwan is a member of the Formosan group of Austronesian languages. It is spoken mainly in Pingtung (屏東縣) and Taitung (臺東縣) counties, and Kaoshiung City (高雄市) in the south of Taiwan. In 2002 there were about 66,000 speakers of Paiwan, which is officially recognised as one of national languages of Taiwan.

There are many dialects of Paiwan which are divided into four groups: Eastern, Northern, Central and Southern.

Tjuruvu a ku salasaladj, izua uqaljay, izua vavayan. ljemita ta qadaw amen a maciuciur a kitulu, a kivangavang uta. Bulay aravac a nia sinsi, kisaseljang tjanuamen a penayuanan, a semenay uta, tjengelay aravac amen ta nia sinsi.

Translation

I have many friends, boys and girls. We study together and play together every day. Our teacher is very good. She often speaks with us and speaks together. We all like her very much.
