Taa is a member of the Tuu language family spoken mainly in Botswana, and also in Nambia. In Botswana it is spoken in Ghanzi, Kgalagadi, Kweneng and Southern districts. In Namibia it is spoken in the Hardap region on the border with Bostwana. In 2011 there were about 2,500 speakers of Taa, which is also known as ǃXóõ, Tsasi, !Khong, !Xoon, Ng|amani and a number of other names.
Taa could be described as a dialect continuum rather than a single language. There are two groups of dialects: West Taa and East Taa.
West Taa is also known as Traill's West ǃXoon and Dorothea Bleek's Nǀuǁʼen or Tâa ǂâan.
East is also known as East ǃXoon or ǃXónya ǂâā
