Yawuru is a member of the Eastern Nyulnyulan language family spoken in and around Broome in the Kimberley region in the north of Western Australia. The last known native speakers of Yawuru died between 2001 and 2007, however efforts are being made to reawaken the language. Yawuru is taught in all schools in Broome, and there are also classes for adults run by the Walalangga Yawuru Ngang-ga language program. The aim is to make the people of Broome bilingual in English and Yawuru.
Dialects of Yawuru included Northern Yawuru, Southern Coastal Yawuru (Julbayi/dyulbayi) and Eastern Inland Yawuru.
