Hungarian Cyrillic (Маѓар цирилл)

The Hungarian Cyrillic alphabet was invented by Samuel P. Bateman, who wanted to make it easier for Hungarians to learn Russian as a second language. The Hungarian Cyrillic alphabet was mostly based on the Russian, Macedonian, Serbian and Azerbaijani Cyrillic alphabets, and is used for writing in the Hungarian language. Most of the digraphs used in the Hungarian Latin alphabet are replaced by single letters in Cyrillic, thereby making it more phonetic.

In most languages that are written in the Cyrillic alphabet, с is [s] and ш is [ʃ]. However, in Hungarian, they are reversed because Bateman wanted to keep it consistent. (In the Hungarian Latin alphabet, s is [ʃ] and sz is [s].)

Standard Hungarian version

Minden emberi lény szabadon születik és egyenlő méltósága és joga van. Az emberek, ésszel és lelkiismerettel bírván, egymással szemben testvéri szellemben kell hogy viseltessenek.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
