It is spoken by about 72,000 people mainly in the southwest Sarawak State on the island of Borneo in eastern Malaysia, particular in Siburan District near the city of Kuching. It is also spoken in the nearby province of West Kalimantan in northern Indonesia.
The people who speak Biatah call themselves Bidayuh ("land people"). They are also known as Land Dayak. Biatah is written with the Latin script, and there is a translation of the Bible in the language.
