Burarra (Gu-jingarliya)

Burarra is member of the Maningrida branch of the Arnhem family of languages. It is spoken by about 1,000 people in the community of Maningrida in central Arnhem Land in the north of the Northern Territory of Australia, particularly along, around and between the Blyth and Cadell Rivers.

Burarra is also known as Anbarra, Barera, Bawera, Burada, Bureda, Burera, Gidjingaliya Gujingalia, Gujalabiya, Gun-Guragone, Jikai or Tchikai. There are three dialects: Gun-nartpa, Gun-narta and Gun-narda.

It is written with the Latin script, and there is some written material in the language.
