Translation

Chamí speech is a variation or dialect of the Embera language. Upon the arrival of the Spanish, the Embera were already distinguished between those of the upper Atrato river, which heads north and empties into the Atlantic Ocean, and those of the upper San Juan river, which heads south and empties into the Pacific Ocean.
