Cha'palaa

Cha'palaa is a Barbacoan language spoken in northern Ecuador by about 9,500 people (in 2004). It is also known as Cha'palaachi, Chachi or Cayapa. Cha'palaa means 'the language of the Chachi people'.

Naaju chachilla bain mu' chachilla bain na kayatu tichiba bulla jutyu naakendya'ba kenu deechu taa na kayamu deju, tsenminya naaju juñu bain ne tsaave ti' uukavinu jutyu naa ti deechu juuchi bain, mubain mubain tsaren dejuve, tsenmin shilli pensangenupude deju' mitya, tsenmin usa' kendu bain ura' kendyu' bain mide' mitya muba mu bain veta' veta' ura' keewaawaa kenuu dejuve.

Translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
