Lashi is a member of the Burmish branch of the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is spoken by between 30,000 and 60,000 people in southwestern China and northeastern Myanmar. In China it is spoken in Mangshi City, Ruili City, Longchuan County and Yingjiang County in Dehong Dai-Jingpho Autonomous Prefecture in western Yunnan Province. In Myanmar it is spoken Kachin and Shan states.
Lashi is also known as Leqi or Lacid. Lashi speakers call it and themselves Lacid.
Lashi is can be written with the Latin alphabet using a spelling system developed in the 1970s. The pronunciation shown below is based on the Cangmokhung dialect, which is regarded as the standard dialect in Kachin State in Myanmar.
