Macushi

Macushi is a Cariban language spoken mainly in northern Brazil, and in southern Guyana and Venezuela. In Brazil it is spoken in Roraima state on the Contingo, Mau, Pium and Quino rivers. In Guyana it is spoken in the Potaro-Siparuni and Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo regions in the foothills of the Pakaraima mountains. In Venezuela it is spoken in Bolívar state along the Caroni river.

In 2012 there were about 15,000 speakers of Macushi in Brazil, and there were about 930 speakers in Guyana. The number of Macushi speakers in Venezuela is not known.

Macushi is also known as Macusi, Macuxi, Makuchi, Makushi, Makusi, Makuxi, Teueia or Teweya.
