Wayana

Wayana is a Cariban language spoken in French Guiana, Suriname and Brazil by about 1,740. In 2012 there were about 1,000 speakers of Wayana in the southwest of French Guiana along the Maroni river. There were also about 450 Wayana speakers along the Tapanahoni and Paloemeu rivers in the Marowijne District of northwestern Suriname, and another 290 speakers along the Paru and Jari in Pará state in northern Brazil.

Wayana is also known as Alukuyana, Ayana, Oayana, Oiana, Oyana, Roucouyenne, Uaiana, Upurui or Wajana.
