Yoron (ユンヌフトゥバ)

Yoron is a Northern Ryukuan language spoken on Yoronjima (与論島), one of the Amami islands and part of Kagoshima Prefecture in southern Japan. In 2004 there were 950 speakers of Yoron, all of whom were adults.

The language is known as ユンヌフトゥバ (Yunnu Futuba) in Yoron, and 与論島方言 (yoronjima hōgen), or Yoron island dialect, in Japanese. Dialects include Chabana, Asato, Gusuku, Ritchō, Kanō, Nama, Mugiya-higashiku, Mugiya-nishiku and Furusato.
