Khamnigan Mongol (ᠬᠠᠮᠨᠢᠭᠠᠨ)

Khamnigan Mongol is a Mongolic language spoken by about 1,500 people mainly in the Chen Baehru Banner of the Hulunbuir League in the northeast of Inner Mongolia in northern China. There are also speakers in the Transbaikal Region (Zabaykalsky Krai) to the east of Lake Baikal in the far east of the Russia Federation, and in the provinces of Khentii and Dornod in eastern Mongolia.

The name Khamnigan is the Mongol name for the Evenki language and people, and Khamnigan Mongol people are descendents of Mongolian and Evenki people. Khamnigan Mongol is a conservative Mongolic language that retains many aspects of Middle Mongolian, while Khamnigan Evenki is a variety of Evenki with much Mongolian influence.

Khamnigan Mongol is recognised as a language in China, and is taught in some schools there. In Russia it was considered a dialect of Buryat until recently, and as a dialect of Mongolian in Mongolia.
