Lun Bawang (Buri’ Lun Bawang)

Lun Bawang is a member of the North Bornean branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 23,000 people in the Sesayap river area of North Kalimantan province in Indonesia. There are 24,000 speakers in Malaysia, mainly in the Lawas, Limbang and Tawau districts of Sarawak, and in the Keningau and Sipitang districts of Sabah. There are also about 500 speakers in the Temburong district of Brunei.

Lun Bawang is also known as Lundayeh, Buri tau, Lun Daya, Lun Dayah, Lun Daye, Lun Dayeh, Lun Dayoh, Lundaya Putuk or Southern Murut. Dialects include Lun Daye, Papadi and Lun Bawang.

Lun Bawang can be written with the Latin alphabet. The first published work in Lun Bawang was a 1982 translation of the Bible. A dictionary of Lun Bawang was published in 2006.
