Nihali

Nihali is a language isolate spoken in central India, specifically in Nimar district of Madhya Pradesh, and in Buldhana district of Maharashtra. In 1991 there were about 2,000 speakers of Nihali, which is also known as Nihal. The majority of speakers are adults, although some younger people do speak the language. Nihali speakers also speak other languages, such as Korku, Hindi and Marathi. There are no known monoglot Nihali speakers.

Nihali is not related to any other language, and may be the last member of an exitinct language family. About 75% of its vocabulary comes from other languages, especially Korku, and also from Dravidian languages and Marathi.
