Old Permic alphabet

The Old Permic alphabet was created in 1372 by the Russian missionary, Stephan Khrap (Степан Храп / Стефан Пермский) (1340-1396), who became St Stephen of Perm. It was modelled on the Greek and Cyrillic alphabets, and the Komi religious "Tamga signs". The alphabet was used until the 17th century.

Old Permic is also known as Abur or Anbur, after the names of the first two letters, An and Bur. Old Permic alphabet Day is celebrated on the 26th April, the saint's day of Stephen of Perm.
