Tamahaq

Tamahaq is a Northern Berber language spoken in mainly in southern Algeria, and also in western Libya and northern Niger by about 114,200 people. There about 71,400 speakers of Tamahaq in the provinces of Adrar, Illizi and Tamanrasset in Algeria. There are about 22,800 speakers in the Ghat and Muruzuq districts of Libya, and there are about 20,000 speakers in the Agadez region of Niger.

Tamahaq is also known as Tahaggart Tamahaq, Tamachek, Tamachek', Tamashekin, Tamasheq, Tomachek, Touareg, Tourage or Tuareg. There are two main dialects: Hoggar and Ghat. It is closely related to Tuareg Berber languages such as Tamajaq and Tamasheq.

This is the official alphabet for Tamahaq in Niger and it was adopted in 1999.
