Central Atlas Tamazight (Tamaziɣt / ⵜⴰⵎⴰⵣⵉⵖⵜ)

Central Atlas Tamazight is a Northern Berber language spoken in the Atlas mountains in central Morocco by about 2.5 million people, according to the 2004 census. It is also known as Central Morocco Tamazight, Middle Atlas Tamazight, Tamazight, Central Shilha, Beraber or Braber.

The name Tamazight is also used to refer to the other Berber languages of Morocco: Kabyle, Shilha, Riff, Shawiya and Tuareg. Central Atlas Tamazight is the most widely spoken of these languages.

A version of the Tifinagh alphabet, or Neo-Tifinagh, became the official script for Tamazight in 2003. was introduced into Moroccan schools in September 2003 as a way to write Tamazight. It is also used by the Tuareg, particularly the women, for private notes, love letters and in decoration. Tamazight is also written with the Arabic script, and the Latin alphabet.
