Zotung is a member of the Kuki-Chin branch of the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is spoken by about 100,00 people, mainly in Chin State in western Myanmar (Burma), particularly in the townships of Hakha (ဟားခါး), Thantlang (ထန်တလန်), Mindat (မင်းတပ်) and Matupi (မတူပီ). It is also spoken in several villages in the Magway Region in central Myanmar.
Zotung is also known as Zotung Chin, Zobya or Zo. There are numerous dialects. A way to write Zotung with the Latin alphabet was devised by Sir Siabawi Khuamin. It is based on the Lungngo dialect, and is widely accepted among Zotung speakers. A Zotung translation of the Bible was published in 2016.
