Huallaga Quechua (Wallaqa Runashimi)

Huallaga Quechua is a Central Quechua language spoken by about 23,900 people in the Department of Huánuco in central Peru, particularly in the districts of Huánuco, Churubamba, Santa María del Valle, San Francisco de Cayrán and Conchamarca in Huánuco Province.

Huallaga Quechua is also known Alto Huallaga, Huallaga Huánuco Quechua, Quechua Huallaguino, Quechua de Huánuco, Quechua de Llacón or Quechua de Matihuaca

Huallaga Quechua is written with the Latin alphabet, although few speakers are literate. A standard way to write the language was developed by the Peruvian Ministry of Education in the 1970s and 1980s. Since then a new standard has emerged. There are translations of the Bible, a grammar and a dictionary, and it is used on the radio.
