Huaylla Wanca Quechua (Wanka Nunashimi)

Huaylla Wanca Quechua is a Central Quechua language with about 300,000 speakers in central Peru, particularly in Concepción and Huancayo provinces in southwest of the Junin Region, and also in the provinces of Chupaca and Jauja. The majority of speakers are adults and few children speak the language, except in some remote communities. It is officially recognised by the government of the Junin Region.

Huaylla Wanca Quechua is also known Huanca Huaylla Quechua, Quechua Huanca, Quechua Wanca, Quechua Wanka, Southern Huancayo Quechua, Wanca or Wanka Quechua.

There are three dialects of Huaylla Wanca Quechua: Huaila hunca, which is spoken in the provinces of Huancayo and Chupaca; Waycha or Huaicha huanca, which is spoken in the province of Concepción, and Jauja huanca, which is spoken in the province of Jauja.

Huaylla Wanca Quechua is written with the Latin alphabet. It first appeared in writing in the Diccionario Políglota Incaico (the Polyglot Inca Dictionary), which was published in 1905. The first dictionary specifically of Huaylla Wanca Quechua was published in 1976 by Rodolfo Cerrón Palomino, a linguist, university lecturer and native speaker. There is some other written material in the language, including a translation of the Bible, it is used on the radio, and is taught in some schools.
