Lio (Sara Li’o)

Lio is a member of the Sumba-Flores group of Malayo-Polynesian languages. It is spoken by about 220,000 people in the Ende Regency and in the Sikka Regency in the centre of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara Province in eastern Indonesia.

Lio is also known as Li'o or Sara Li'o. It is written with the Latin alphabet, and there are several spelling systems.

Manusia lako no’o leko. Ebé rapa uli. Na ebé bego. Manusia lako no’o leko rapa bego. Sawé ola kobé lako no’o manusia nai roké leka ténda roké. Leko leka one stoflés. Leko wulo tau paru.

Translation

A human, a dog and a frog. They are friends with each other. They are playing. The human, the dog and the frog are playing together. Then, at night, the dog and the human climb up to sleep in a bed. The frog is inside a jar. The frog jumps out in order to run.
