Palu’e is a member of the Sumba-Flores branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 10,000 people on the island of Palu’e in the Palu’e District of the Sikka Regency in Nusa Tenggara Timur Province in eastern Indonesia. There are also speakers of Palu’e on the north coast of Flores Island.
Palu’e is also known as Palu'e, Palue, Paluqe or Lu'a. Speakers of Palu’e call themselves ata Lu’a and their island Lu’a. Palu’e can be written with the Latin alphabet, although there is no standard spelling system.
