The Thaipañol Alphabet was created by Daniel Fregoso Bañuelos to write Spanish using the Thai alphabet. He had been studying Thai but was struggling to memorize all the letters of the Thai alphabet, and in an attempt to learn the letters more quickly he tried his hand at adapting them for Spanish.
When studying an alphabet chart for Thai, he noticed how the letters were categorized into three tone classes - high, middle, and low - and saw that there was a basic pattern in the alphabet order, with the order going from a mid tone letter, to a high tone letter, to a low tone one. He used this when deciding which letters were to represent Spanish sounds, despite tone classes not being used in Spanish. Letters with similar pronunciations in Thai would be grouped together, and from that group Daniel made sure the letters he chose did not come from the same tone class in order to diversify the final adapted version.
