Bedawi Arabic is a variety of Arabic spoken by about 2.4 million people mainly in Egypt and Jordan, and also in Israel, Syria and Palestine. In Egypt it is spoken by about 1.1 million people on the Red Sea coast of the Sinai Peninsula and in the Eastern Desert, particularly in the South Sinai and Suez governorates
In Jordan Bedawi Arabic is spoken by about 1.1 million people, particularly in the southeast of the country. It is spoken by about 121,000 people in Israel along the west bank of the Jordan river and around the Dead Sea, and there are about 28,300 speakers in nearby parts of Palestine. In Syria it is spoken by about 71,000 people mainly in the south of the country.
Bedawi Arabic is also known as Northwest Arabian Arabic, Levantine Bedawi (Spoken) Arabic or Eastern Egyptian Bedawi Arabic. It is written with the Arabic script, and there is some literature in the language.
