Bokar is member of the Tani branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is spoken by the Lhoba people in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradash in the northeast of India, and also in Mainling County in the southeast of Tibet Autonomous Region in China. There are about 1,000 speakers.
Bokar is also known as Bokar-Ramo-Pailib or Bogar Luoba. The main dialects of Bokar are Ramo and Pailibo.
In India Bokar is written with the Latin script, and in Tibet it is written with the Tibetan script.
Cch, ph and th are also used, but only in Tibetan loanwords.
