Hill Miri is a member of the Western Tani branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is spoken by about 10,000 people mainly in the Kamle district in the south of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. In particular, it is spoken along the Lower Kamla River and the Simmi River.
Hill Miri is also known as Nyishi, Kamle or Sarak. Native speakers call it muri-mugli. It is considered to be a dialect of Nishi. It is classified as endangered as younger Hill Miri people are shifting to other languages. There are ways to write Hill Miri with the Latin and Devanagari alphabets.
Other Devanagari letters may be used in loanwords from other languages.
