Istro-Romanian (rumârește)

Istro-Romanian is a Balkan Romance language spoken mainly a few villages on the Istria peninsula in the northwest of Croatia, particularly the village of Žejane. In 2007 there were about 1,400 speakers of Istro-Romanian, including 300 native speakers. It is spoken mainly by adults and is classified by UNESCO as seriously endangered.

Istro-Romanian is also known as Istrio-Romanian, Roma or Romani. Speakers call it rumârește, vlășește or rumêri-kuvinta, and call themselves Rumeri or Rumeni. They are also known as Vlachs, Rumunski, Ćići or Ćiribiri.

More than half the words used in Istro-Romanian are borrowed from other languages, particularly from Croatian and Slovenian, and also from Italian, Venetian and Old Church Slavonic.

Translation (Romanian)

Tatăl nostru care ești în ceruri,
facă-se voia Ta,
precum în cer, așa și pe pământ.
Pâinea noastră cea de toate zilele dă-ne-o nouă astăzi.
Și ne iartă nouă păcatele noastre,
precum și noi iertăm greșiților noștri.
Și nu ne duce pe noi în ispită,
ci ne izbăvește de cel rău.
Amin.
