Lorrain (Lorin)

Lorrain is a Romance language spoken in the northeast of France, mainly in Lorraine, part of the Grand Est region, and also in western Alsace, and in the Gaume region of southweast Belgium. Lorrain is classified as a regional language in France, and is officially recognised as a regional language in the Wallonia region of Belgium.

Lorrain is also known as lorrain roman or Lorin. There are seven major varieties of Lorrain: Argonnais, Longovicien, Gaumais, Messin, Nancéien, Spinalien / Vosgien, and Déodatien.

Lorrain is a descendent of Vulgar Latin, with some Celtic and Germanic influences. There is no standard way to write Lorrain. The alphabet below is one way to write Vosgien, a dialect of Lorrain is spoken in the French departments of Vosges, Moselee, Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin.
