Jru is a member of the Bahnaric branch of the Austroasiatic language family. It is spoken in Champasak, Sekong and Attapeu Provinces in southern Laos. In 2007 there were about 28,000 speakers of Jru, which is also known as Loven, Laven, Boloven, Boriwen, Jaru, Jruq or Laweenjru.
Jru has been written with versions of the Latin and Lao alphabets. The Khom script, invented by Ong Kommandam, was also used for a while in the early 20th century.
