Tampuan (ទំពួន)

Tampuan is a member of the Bahnaric branch of the Mon-Khmer language family. It is spoken in parts of Ratanakiri Province in the north east of Cambobia by about 57,000 people. It is closely related to Bahnar and Alak.

In 1997 a number of organisations, including the Cambodian government, UNESCO and NGOs, got together to develop a script for Tampuan - before than it had not been written. They came up with a modified version of the Khmer alphabet, which was approved for use in 2003.
