Mayo (Yoreme Nokki)

Mayo is an Uto-Aztecan language spoken in northern Mexico, mainly in the south of Sonora, and in the north of Sinaloa. There are also Mayo speakers in Durango state. According to the 2010 census, there are 39,600 speakers of Mayo. Mayo is mostly mutually intelligible with Yaqui, which is spoken in Sonora in Mexico, and in Arizona in the USA.

Mayo is used on a radio station in Sonora. Young people who speak the language well can receive government scholarships.
