Mori Bawah

Mori Bawah is a member of the Celebic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 14,000 people in the southeast of Sulawesi island in Indonesia, particularly in the Bungku Tengah, Lembo and Petasia sub-districts of Central Sulawesi province, and in parts of South Sulawesi province.

Dialects of Mori Bawah include Tinompo, Watu, Moiki, Tiu, Karunsi'e. The Tinompo dialect has the highest prestige and was spoken by Mori Bawah royalty. In the early 20th century it was chosen by the colonial authorities as the standard for the Mori area. It is closely related to Mori Atas and Padoe, which are spoken in the same area.

Mori Bawah is written with the Latin alphabet. There is a grammar, some texts and a translation of parts of the Bible in the language.
