Pingelapese is a Micronesian language spoken by about 5,100 people in Pingelap, an atoll in Pohnpei State of the Federated States of Micronesia, and also in Pohnpei, parts of the USA and Europe. In 2014 there were about 4,500 speakers pf Pingelapese, including about 500 in Pingelap, 2,000 in Pohnpei, another 2,000 in other parts of Micronesia.
Pingelapese is used in homes and churches, while Pohnpeian and English are the main languages used in schools and administration. Pingelapese is rarely written, and few speakers. An way of writing Pingelapese with the Latin alphabet was developed in the 20th century, but few people know it, and it's not taught in schools.
