Woleaian is a member of the Trukic branch of the Micronesian language family. It is spoken on Woleai and nearby islands, part of the East Caroline Islands in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. There are about 5,000 speakers of Woleaian, according to the 2000 census. 4,500 people speak Woleaian as a native language, and 500 speak it as a second language.
Woleaian is closely related to Satawalese, Ulithian, Puluwatese, Mortlockese and Chuukese. It is written with the Latin alphabet, and was written with the Caroline Island Script (Woleaian syllabary) until the mid-20th century.
Woleaian is considered an offical language in Yap State of Micronesia
