Tlahuitoltepec Mixe is a member of the Mixe branch of the Mixe-Zoque language family. It is spoken by about 16,800 people in the State of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, in particular in the towns of Santa María Tlahuitoltepec, San Pedro y San Pablo Ayutla Tamazulapam del Espíritu Santo, Santo Domingo Tepuxtepec, Santa María Tepantlali and Mixistlán de la Reforma in the Sierra Norte region in northeastern Oaxaca.
Tlahuitoltepec Mixe is also known South Highland Mixe. Dialects include Ayuk and Ayulta (Tukyo’m Ayuujk).
Tlahuitoltepec Mixe is written with the Latin alphabet, and a translation of the New Testament was published in 1988. There is a radio station in Santa María Tlahuitoltepec that broadcasts in Tlahuitoltepec Mixe, and the language is taught in some schools.
