Totontepec Mixe (Ayöök)

Totontepec Mixe is a member of the Mixe branch of the Mixe-Zoque language family. It is spoken by about 5,500 people in the State of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, in particular in the town of Totontepec Villa de Morelos in the Sierra Mixe District of the Sierra Norte Region in the northeast of Oaxaca.

Totontepec Mixe is also known North Highland Mixe, Northwestern Mixe, Mixe Alto del Norte, Ayuk or Ayöök.

Totontepec Mixe is written with the Latin alphabet, and there is some literature in the language, including a dictionary and a translation of the New Testament.
