The Grekoiberieraren Alfabeto Berria, or "New Greco-Iberian Alphabet", is an adaptation by Isaac Mayer of the Greek alphabet for the Basque language of northern Spain and southern France. The Basques have lived in the Iberian peninsula since before Indo-European tribes migrated to the area, and Basque is thought to be the sole survivor of the "Paleohispanic languages".
In the period before the Roman conquest of Iberia, a Greco-Iberian script was in use, writing the extinct Iberian language in a script adapted from Greek. THe Grekoiberieraren Alfabeto Berria is meant to be an elaboration and adaptation of that system for modern Basque phonology. Since Greco-Iberian was in use long before the development of modern lowercase Greek letters, the Grekoiberieraren Alfabeto Berria is written completely in uppercase.
