Northern Birifor is member of the Gur branch of Niger-Congo languages. It is spoken by about 108,000 people mainly in the southwest of Burkina Faso, particularly in the provinces of Bougouriba, Ioba, Noumbiel and Poni. There are also speakers of Northern Birifor in western Côte d'Ivoire.
Northern Birifor is also known as Malba Birifor. It is written with the Latin alphabet.
