Ntcham (ncam)

Ntcham is a member of the Northern Gur branch of the Niger-Congo language family. It is spoken by about 390,000 people in northwestern Togo and northeastern Ghana, especially in the town of Bassar in the Kara Region of Togo, and also in the villages of Kabou, Bangeli, Bitchabe, Dimori, Baghan and Kalanga. In Ghana, Ntcham speakers are mainly found in Tatale and Kpandai in the Northern Region, Kpasa in the Oti Region.

Ntcham is also known as Basar, Basare, Basari, Basari, Bassar, Bassari, Ncham, Ncam or Tobote. Dialects include Ntaapum, Ceemba and Dipiitil. The people who speak it call it ncam, and they call themselves Nichambi. It is also used as a lingua franca by the Akaselem and Konkomba peoples.
