Kuku Nyungkal

Kuku Nyungkal is part of the Yalanjic branch of the Pama-Nyungan language family. It is spoken mainly in the communities of Wujal Wujal and Mossman on the Annan River in Far North Queensland in the northeast of Australia. It is considered a variety or dialect of Guugu Yalandji (Kuku-Yalanji), which has about 320 speakers, while Kuku Nyungkal has just 5 speakers.

Plans to document and record Kuku Nyungkal were made in 2020 as part of the Priority Languages Support Project.

Kuku Nyungkal is also known as Kuku Nyungkul, Kuku Njunggal, Guugu Nyungkul, Gugu Njunggal, Kuku Njungkul or Kuku Ngungkal.
