Wiradjuri is a member of the Wiradjuri group of the Pama-Nyungan languages. It is spoken in the central southern region of New South Wales of Australia between the Macquarie and Murray rivers, and in the Lachlan river area. In 2005 there were about 30 speakers of Wiradjuri, and efforts are being made to revitalize the language.
Wiradjuri is currently taught at all levels of education in the towns of Parkes and Forbes in New South Wales, where about 10% of the people speak the language.
A standardised spelling system for the language was approved by the Wiradjuri Council of Elders in 1988. The first Wiradjuri dictionary was published in 2005, and is also available as a mobile app and an online version.
