Sora (𑃐𑃚𑃝 / ସଉରା)

Sora is a Munda language spoken in northern Andhra Pradesh in the northwest of India. Sora is spoken mainly in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada. There are also Sora speakers in neighbouring areas, and in other parts of India, such as Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam. According to the 2001 census, there are 250,000 speakers of Sora.

Sora is primarily an oral language that is rarely written. However, is has been written with a number of different scripts, including the Sora Sompeng alphabet, and the Odia, Telugu and Latin alphabets.

Transliteration

  1. Aparamangtan kitungan riangan do ordaran gabdeletan.
  2. Ordaran arzngrzngdam do arikkadam na. Bar jaru d'an a langkan lanungudan dakule do kitungan a janggardan d'an a langka haraile.
  3. Ante saring kitungan gameten, paledamte, seletten paledle.

Translation

  1. In the beginning God created heaven, and earth.
  2. And the earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters.
  3. And God said: Be light made. And light was made.
